PEARS
PEARS is a new AHA intermediate course for credentialed healthcare providers who infrequently see critically ill children. The main focus of PEARS is prevention, and specifically the assessment, recognition, and stabilization of pediatric victims at risk of severe cardiopulmonary distress. Course content covers pediatric assessment, recognition and management of Respiratory Distress and Respiratory Failure, recognitions and management of Shock, Respiratory and Circulatory management, and the resuscitation team concept and American Heart Association pediatric Chain of Survival. (* includes AHA mandated PEARS textbook)
It is NOT intended for those staff credentialed for advanced pediatric skills that ROUTINELY provide critical pedi care. (EMT-P, ED, PICU, or other critical pediatric advanced life support (PALS)).
It is a video-based, instructor-led, traditional classroom course. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an AHA PEARS Provider Course Completion Card (2 years).
Prerequisite: Class participants must have a current AHA HCP BLS (or ARC equivalent) card.
